I was lucky enough to find a very nice used carder. I am loving it. I have found that I do need to run some of my fleeces through it twice when I want to prepare it to spin into yarn. I think it just lines the fibers up better. For felting once is e…

OK Maryann, Here is another question. I am interested in knowing how many of you shear your own? If so how did you get started? Any tips, pointers, advice. Which shears do you use and why? Koehlers 4 Star Alpacas http://koehlers4star.tripod.com

Glad to be here, the picture was up in Burkes Garden, VA, wonderful place to be and shear! Thanks for the warm welcome. If you see/hear anyone needing advice as far as shearing goes, feel free to send them my way!

Tracey,
Thanks, for asking about our new cria. She actually arrived a few days before she was expected, as my dam has run between 345-360 days on her last two births. So, surprise, our new little girl 'Deer Mountain's Shooting Star' arrived while we were both at work! She was completely dry when we arrived on the scene and mom looked like it was just another day! Star is very healthy and very, very cute!!! I have uploaded three pictures that I took of her at 4 days old....

Hi Tracey,
Nice to hear from you. Jamie said I should sign up for this site so I can keep in touch with other people who are interested in alpaca's like us. I like your pic's also. So I am new to this. I am so happy to hear that you are going to Veterinary College. Will you be working with alpacas or in the lab part if it?

Hi Tracey :) For the moment we are sticking with our 4H boys :) We don't have enough acreage for any additions at this point. I am in my last year of college...going for my A.A.S. degree in Veterinary Technology :) Graduation will be May of 2010. After that, we will begin the search for our farm :) Then, I will add more to our herd. I am thinking I will have these three boys gelded this fall yet as to alleviate some tensions that seem to grow as the one boy matures (he's 2 years old). I have a True Black (Koal), a DSG (Toro)- both whom I purchased from Donna Killion :) and a BEW as seen in my profile pic (Odin aka Odie) whom I purchased from Sandy Kunath from Hawick, MN. Odin's grandfather is PPPeruvian Royal Fawn, so as you can imagine, he has some FABULOUS fiber ! I am excited to see what sheering day next spring brings with this fabulous boy!!!
