Maybe it's just boredom. Animals do funny things when they are bored. ;)

I would like to second this. Also, there are several very good breeds to guard your herd. We use Anatolian Shepherds and there isn't ANYTHING getting into our fields that doesn't belong. It is amazing to watch our two when they sense danger. One her…

Those were my first thoughts too ladies but you wouldnt believe the amount of vitamins and minerals i am putting in her daily. Plus I did try the minerals on the feed and she refuses to eat it...just making me nuts!

Once in a while I find one of our alpacas doing the samething. Not losing weight or anything just eating dirt. I ended up sprinkling a little bit of mineral on top of her grain when she eats. She stops eating dirt.

Our new baby!

Last Sunday, October 4th we had a little girl! Our Barbi Doll (proven mom) had a little girl at 3:00pm. Text book birth but talk about little! Now, Barbi is a big girl so figuring a good size cria but this little one weighed in at 9. 2 pounds. We have had small but strong ones in the past but she was a weak little thing but strong enough to find the teats within 2 hours but shaky. Barbi was not bagged up at all but I did get about 4 cc's of colostrum out of her to feed baby but knew she just did… Continue

It's a boy!

Sorry I haven't been around but been on baby watch! I was really watching our 12 year old and thought she may have it by this weekend but our Willie (my blue eyed white's momma that rejected her last year) had a little boy today. He is a healthy strong 8.4oz black boy and is doing great. Willie seemed scared to death of her Tutu last year and never bonded so i had to bottle feed. This year she is much more interested but still refuses to feed. I have milked her twice and she is at least interest… Continue

Thank you. I'm looking forward to everything this group has to offer. It's nice to have a place to interact with other people who have the same interest. I'm the only alpaca breeder out here so it gets lonely.

It was fun to find your site and browse around. So many features! All we need is....TIME.
Thank you, Maryann, for welcoming us. We look forward to participating in this site and hope to share some of our 10 years experience as alpaca owners and help promote a fiber industry in 2010. We've been developing an expanding group of owners and fiber artists, by offering a variety of weekly classes in our fiber barn here in Central CA, SLO county.
Thank you for providing this opportunity for all of us to grow our businesses.

Oh yes you will see me! I couldn't sleep at 4 am again and I've been reading everything that everyone has written under certain subjects on this website. I read books about alpacas before bringing them home, but it's nothing like having one in front of me. I am also not sure how often I can bother the man who sold me my alpacas and no one nearby has any and it's also so nice to be reading about them in ENGLISH! Thank you all!

Thank you for the Welcome Maryann, and Thank you for the website! I'm not sure I would have found you if I hadn't been so desperate! Both Francisco and Fraser are so much better now. Apparently, they needed their stomachs to be 'jump started'.
Is this always what you do first if you notice them not masticating?
