We lease our farm (Ottsville, PA) from my aunt and are saving to buy our own farm in NE PA, with the hopes of enough land to open a rescue and sanctuary for alpacas. We also own "Babydoll" mini sheep.

Oh! I forgot to mention, I am American. My husband is French. I was born in Harrisburg, PA (I noticed you are in PA). My father still lives in Lancaster County (Landisville). He'll come to visit me in April!

Hello Linda, The breeder has been very supportive. I found this forum at 4 AM in a panic... I didn't want to call him at that time. Also, I've been embarrassed at times to ask questions that I thought might be 'dumb'. The alpaca that died had always lay down more than the other's. He kept to himself, I'd had the Vet out to check on him before... Everybody (including me) thought I was worrying too much and over-reacting. I've learned so much from the experience.

Thanks for welcoming us, Linda. I enjoyed your page and your photos as well. Looks like you also have a cute grey cria! We're on opposite sides of the country, so the alpaca social site will be great for exchanging information. We're new to this site, but "old" in the business. Sandra and Dave in Paso Robles, CA

The other's are doing very well, Thank you. They are chomping away like I've never seen them eat before! The Vet said he doesn't think the problems are related. The one that died, Frere Noel, had never been as healthy as Francisco and Fraser. I'd had the Vet out to check him before in the 5 months I've had him. He was always lying down too much, I thought. The breeder said his father and sons lie down more often as well.
I didn't know how important chewing their cud is. There is so much I don't know... Probably, stupid, common sense stuff. That's the first place I looked on this website...
The experience was very difficult, but I'm learning so much from it.

Hi Linda,
Nice to hear from you. I'm glad you liked my page, I hope that it helps new people like my self that find very little really good parasite information on alpacas. I am a vet. tech, but have no experience in alpacas. I have felt very alone at times, that is one reason I have joined alpaca social. And so as I find the answers to my questions I plan on adding info. pages to my site. How long have you had alpacas?
