Actually I have just sold all my herd because my alpaca shearer wouldn't shear them because of their loose skin so I was shearing them myself and that took up to much of my time.

That is awesome! How many do u have?
December 10, 2009
Yes, they produce mohair. They are sheared twice a year.
December 10, 2009
Do you get to shear them and use their fiber?

Canela would not eat carrots at first either. After about 2 weeks, he became a carrot fiend. He absolutely loves them!

Karen,
I have just been using carrots chopped up into small pieces. Both boys love them. Not as fattening as alpaca pellets!

I have actually looked for property in your area about 3 years ago. But now I need to stay closer to mom and dad. My mom is still kicking and independent but she's starting to worry me. If anything should happen I will need to be close by. Don't want my brother to have to handle things all by himself. He has 2 small kids. Mine is grown.
Would like to add you as a friend if you don't mind.

Shearing is not a problem. Will get you the name and phone number of people to call. They take 7min. an animal and unless the price has gone up the cost is only $28 per animal. The farms my area all get together and shear on the same day. The man does 30-50 animals in a matter of just a few hours. Everybody helps and it goes by quickly. you can also do shots and toenails at the same time. Minimal stress to the animals and its over in a blink.
