Made By Alpaca People For Alpaca People

Well Nationals are over for another year. Saw many familiar faces and some new ones. The Meet and Greet at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was great. Competition was stiff--I don't know how the judges do it. The quality of the animals was outstanding. Auction was a little disappointing--roughly 33% of the animals did not sell, including mine (reserve was not met) but I'm not too disheartened as she has been bred to Cactus Jack and should have an awesome cria. Would like to know what others thought of the show.

I'm interested in the Super Stud raffle winners...that was held at the Nationals, right? Are the results posted anywhere?
Thanks for any help! Lisa

You know its weird this year. I have heard absolutly nothing about the nationals. Show results, auctions, or anything. I havent really been looking too hard but it seams like in years past, announcements were being sent out, banners made, airplane sky writing. I wonder why this year is different?

IMO, it was poorly done.
If you had a 4 wheel cart, you were not allowed to use it, union regulations. If you weren't able to snag a union worker, you had to shag everything in yourself.
The alpacas entering did not get a vet check, a vet verified microchips only.
We weren't told until the week before that we would need to pay for parking. The parking charge was $64.
This was supposedly the World Conference. Except for a sign here and there and the occasional Kiwi in the crowd, you would not have known it.
Carpeting on the very slick floors was sparse.
The show order made no sense. The shorn and composite went first, so the shearers twiddled their thumbs, only to get backed up once the full fleece started. One ring did not start full fleece until late Saturday.
It was announced that Salt Lake was out, next year will be in Indianapolis.
I can attend two large shows for the same price of what Nationals costs. I do not foresee attending Nationals again

Jeff attended Nationals and came home with several comments. One is the show had many more Suri's than Huacayas. The Huacayas ended up being sheared right there as it was warm for them to be sporting a full blankets of fiber. Some attendees complained that the show should be switched with the Janaury Fiber to Fashion show so more people can participate with fully blanketed animals. Many of the alpacas were from the northern half of the US. Jeff said that he was not impressed with AOBA and many attendees were not pleased with the general meeting itself. On the other hand, ARI represented themselves as the world class organization they are.

While there, he were able to purchase a beautiful bred female from PNA that was auctioned to a person who did not have the money that he bid. As a result, we bought her under the auctioned sold price. She is bred to Snowmass Nova's Gold from Rieling Ranch. PNA Augustas Lucille will be 2 years old in October and expecting to delivery in February. Lucky to be in the right place at the right time as Lucille took a Color Reserve Championship so we consider ourselves fortunate - but broke!
