I just purchased mine. i am pleased with my louet hand carder.
Now i am looking to get a tumbler. My yarn is very rough without tumbling first.
My husband is very handy and is working with the design now.
I will let you know the end result of that project.
Just be careful from who you purchase your carder. I am still waiting for one that I paid for in June - probably will never see it or my money. Contact the manufacturer first...
I was lucky enough to find a very nice used carder. I am loving it.
I have found that I do need to run some of my fleeces through it twice when I want to prepare it to spin into yarn. I think it just lines the fibers up better.
For felting once is enough. I would make sure it has teeth that are close together as it will help to seperate the fiber better and make smoother batts.
The one I purchased says
Made in Canada by Halton Wood Products
I'm loving my electric (wide) 18 inch Duncan! The manufacturer is here in Oregon, he drove to my house 2 hours away delivered it and taught me how to use and maintain it. It is a delight, and so was he!
I injured my elbow and wrist while using a "crank" type carder, having to spend time at the hand therapist and wearing a brace, not to mention the chronic pain for months! It's better now though. The electric extra wide carder puts out beautiful batts in minutes.
I bought a Patrick Green Carder. I called the maker of these carders and they were so helpful and talked to me for a long time. You just can't go wrong with a patrick green. I bought the electric one. Thought I would save my shoulders
