I have a 2 mo. old male cria that has had diahrea for over a week. No parasites, had him tested. The vet thinks he might be eating sand. It's possible. I've had him on Albon and plain yogurt for 3 days but still runny poop. Any suggestions?

I would give him a child's dose of Cherry flavored Kaopectate. That should help with the diarrhea.

Make sure he is geting plenty of fresh water too. Maybe his Mom's feed has changed? Or maybe Mom and/or baby are getting a little more fresh grass in their diets? If he is eating and drinking well, I would try not to get too panicked.

Thanks, I'll try the children's cherry Kaopectate. He's drinking water and feed hasn't changed. I think he's chewing on oak tree bark. He seems to be healthy other than diarrhea.

The Kaopectate is a Dr. Evan's remedy. Has worked for me. Sometimes they just get a little loose stool for no particular reason...kinda like human babies.

I worry with Diarrhea. They can get dehydrated very quickly and go down from that before you figure out the cause. I would put electrolites in the water, give him probios 1 to 2 times a day and oral give him at least 60 cc's 2 times a day of electrolites as well on top of the other things recommended above.

Good to hear that. I had started to work myself up over it.

I agree with Maryann on electrolytes and probios....along with the Kaopectate. It can't hurt anything and will help to keep him hydrated and help with his digestive tract . If it's loose stools, it should tighten up. If it's liquidy squirts, I would keep my vet involved...!! And I would worry!
I'm not familiar with the sand problem, but I have heard people refer to "Sand Clear". Your vet would know all about that. Or Maryann may know. Let us know how he does!

I will recommend to check his Temperature and monitoring his weight, could be and infectious diarrhea.

Bio-Sponge is also a great product! Glad you mentioned checking the cria's weight and temp Arturo.
