We here at the social can post just about anything and all opinions are welcome. We do not  delete any posts, comments or opinions when it pertains to alpacas and we try to make this site the most honest and open site that we can.

When something is posted and I feel that it might be wrong, i look into it, post what i have found so others can get the real story or at least the other side of the story. When I post something, i always look into it and post the best i know about the subject.

Well, i posted and email that was sent out by ARI this past year in regards to Brainstorm Alpacas.  I looked into it and 100% was behind ARI and what was said and done to Brainstorm Alpacas.  I am no longer 100% and if anything, realizing that so many others were involved and pointing fingers was not the way ARI should have done things and i should have done thing differently as well.  We may never know 100% of the story and because of my dealings with now Rising Sun Alpacas, I feel that Brainstorm Alpacas is doing everything to make things right.

I now have personally dealt with Mike from the old Brainstorm and Suzanne of the new Rising Sun Alpacas and am happy to say that not only do i have some wonderful, healthy animals now on my farm from them but they were kind, open, honest, professional, and willing to share past experiences, knowledge and the issues of the past.

These alpacas came with signed ARI's, complete health records, fiber samples, complete history of the animal and a signed reg for the new crias to come.  I have now transferred over the ARI's with no issues and am looking forward to many years of wonderful producers for my foundation herd.

I personally apologize for not getting more information, being more informative and allowing any and all farms to contact me directly before posting the letter from ARI.  Regardless of what ARI feels, we all have to take everything with a grain of salt and form our own opinions and for me, my opinions have changed DRASTICALLY.  I have and will continue to do business with Rising Sun Alpacas and with Suzanne and Mike in the future if it comes up.  We had a wonderful experience and i hope that anyone else that deals with them has the same experience as i had.

It's not just up and down... It's inside out and upside down, twisted turns and deep dives....its the worst roller coaster ride anyone could imagine !! It's the only way I can explain the feeling as someone who has spent years loving and caring for people, both undiagnosed and diagnosed, that were afflicted.

I'd send you my copy of the book, but I've already passed it on to someone !! It's a great book and you will not be able to put it down !
You hit it right on the head.......... It is an every day adventure. The man is a genius and I wish I had his ideas and ability to keep his head up.
He is in Hawaii now. For the month. He need's this.....
Not that I don't.... Thanks dear.!
You should meet his amazingly beautiful daughter, inside and out. She works with children and is his number one support.
Lot's of hugs. Hope you can make it to our auction. And I feel at peace that someone here, actually understands.
You are absolutely right Margie! I to have no experience with Mike, other than speaking to him on the phone when he called me recently inquirying on a male I have listed for sale. But I do have TONS of experience with BiPolar and Manic Depression since my sister is afflicted with both. It is an awful, awful disease! Hard on the people who have it and hard on the people who love them!
I'm happy to hear that Mike is now back on his meds and getting the help he needs. I commend Suzanna for sticking with him cause I know how difficult it can be.
I wish Mike and Suzanna nothing but the best! And in the future would have no problem purchasing or selling to them. I would do my homework - as I think we all should do - with every sale or purchase. And knowing what has happened in Mike's past would make me double check everything, but in the end wouldn't that be best for both of us?
In my opinion about mental illness, never trust a person who suffers or claims to suffer from a mental illness/or personality disorder. If they can not take care of themselves, they have no business taking care of animals. There is never an excuse for neglect or abuse of any type to animals/or humans. Mental illness is not an excuse for doing wrong. The mentally ill are never stable, they never stay on their medications, their doctors have no clue on how to keep things under control with them because each of them are individuals, and there is NO CURE. They end up in the hospital for the rest of their lives, in prison, on the streets, or dead. Unless, they have loved ones/one taking care of them for the rest, of their lives.
In my opionion......Animals help the ill and always have. There are no animals being neglected and or abused. Come anytime and see for yourself. Feel free to grab a shovel, that is if there is any dung to clean up.
No it is not an excuse. But it does happen..........Again no neglect and or abuse....
I think I am done with this nonsense and discussion.....It really seems to be a waste of time.
A positive attitude love and respect. Even for the ill....... That is what I have....
Please feel free to call anytime. I would love to talk.
Never trust..... you are way off base my dear. May God never put you or your loved ones in this situation......
"I really enjoy life and right now my life is alpacas. I love their peaceful nature and everything they have brought into my life. But, I also love the arts, the outdoors, people, work, religion, and every science there is. I'm not a normal person."
Dena kotka-holtz
I am not a normal person either. But I truly do love people. And is mental illness a science? Person?? Religion???? You should see the art Mike has ..........
Wow Dena! Isn't this kinda harsh! I hope for your sake that mental illness is never found in your family!
Hi everyone,
I've not responded to this subject until now. It seems emotions are flying everywhere and rightly so, we are emotional beings. The subject of this conversation surely doesn't know that his personal medical information is being shown for all to see. Being a nurse for 30 years, working with the mentally ill has been a large part of my career. I know that many folks have a poor understanding of bi-polar disease in that these folks by all intents look and act normal (part-time) and when they don't, their actions are interpreted as a personal affront or a lack of responsibility, etc, etc. Many of us have been hurt personally by a family member or a friend with mental illness, so we fear it (them), we're angry, etc, etc.
Possibly a little less judgment and a lot more empathy will go a long way. Let's just spit and get on with it!
You are so right and I am not saying it is easy. Sometimes a uphill battle. I am glad to say he is in Hawaii and I hope he is enjoying his time with his family.
And yes, let's just move on.
I love the pic of the cria's. These are some of my favorite, when they are kissing.
Next to the ones with my daughter.
Suzanna
Sherm or Cindy, I understand that the people who suffer from mental illness have rights too, I really know more than everyone thinks I might, (Without the degree). I do not know this farm or his business. That isn't the point. But from the little I do know, from this person's business, the more I think this person who is explaining his business dealings is somehow coming up with excuses for this controversy and is looking for sympathy from people who only know the stero-types from society and know nothing of people who suffer from mental illness. There are very few out there who have been diagnosed with a mental disorder that can even run a business, it is just to much stimuli for them, without help. Yes, we all suffer from depression etc... but, people who suffer from mental illness have a serious disease not to be taken lightly, check out history and see how societies all over the world treated people who suffered from mental illnessess, thus the mental hospitals and doctors. Why is this person trying to label this person as an in-curable. "Yeh!, people will rush to do business with someone unstable?!!" Makes no sense to me and even the people who do suffer from mental illness wouldn't brag to a society that believes in stero-types to ruin their own creditibility. They are not stupid, just over stimuli-ed.
My point is that mental illness is not an excuse, the mentally ill are always mentally ill. It's not alcoholism or a druggy your talking about that can turn their life around by taking responsibilities for their actions and making amends through some sort of AA program. The mentally ill/personality disorder people do harm to themselves or to others, always, that's how they got labeled with these problems. The medication that these people are on, are not cures, most of the time they are medication straight jackets. They do not know how to live in society that is why they are in hospitals, prisons, and in the streets. And yes, I've heard that excuse thousands of times, "What is normal, I'm not normal". Of course, we are all different as individuals are suppose to be. But do you go on a manic high for days or weeks until you start becoming hostile or violent towards others or yourself, or into such a depression that you can no longer function by feeding yourself or whatever. No, I bet you not being normal means that no one understands your individual self. If a person is labeled mentally ill, they are labeled as one who can not function in society as you can or anyone else. I'm not trying to be harsh, I just know the facts, how much do you know about mental illness? Check with the doctors of the mind and officers of the law.
